Chris' love affair with the PRE horse began when she was introduced to the beautiful imported stallion Dacio III standing at Anchorbar Stud. He was truly an exceptional example of the Carthusian line, with oval shapes and a cascading mane and tail. His flamboyant movement was captivating. Chris had previously had extensive experience working with a variety of breeds from dressage warmbloods to stock horses, race horses and hacks. She was overwhelmed that the PRE horse offered the complete package – beauty, movement and temperament.
Chris' stud Christom was established in the 1980s and the foundation stock included the imported stallion Salmantino and mares Fenicia and Coplera. Sadly this stud was dispersed due to ill health however her passion for the breed never faded. As part of her recovery she moved to Far North Queensland in 1995 where she met her partner Grant, also a passionate horseman. The dream was reborn with the establishment of Cristogracia.
Chris' experience as a trainer began with her introduction to the classical dressage principles of the late Mr Nuno Oliveira by Don Baxter and Joy Howley in the late 1980’s. She is passionate about this training approach and has expanded her knowledge throughout the years. Her most recent venture is into Working Equitation, a traditional sport originating in Portugal and Spain. Chris was the first instructor to be accredited by Australian Founder, Gill Kennerley.
